Toddler Singulair

Do you have a toddler who takes singulair? If so does he or she have trouble sleeping at night?

So, it might just be him being 2 1/2 but I’m trying to figure out if maybe this medication is making my son have a hard time sleeping. He never goes to sleep in less than an hour and it usually takes like 2 hours and lots of stress for the entire household. I am wondering if this is because of the medication.

Yes! My 8-year-old daughter takes singulair and has a terrible time falling asleep. Difficulty sleeping is one of the potential side effects listed on the packet that comes with the medication. Talk to your doctor if you’re concerned.

For us, we just decided that it’s a necessary evil. Before my daughter was on Singulair, she was always at the ER for major asthma attacks and had pneumonia twice. When she’s been on it, she almost never has an asthma attack and they are milder when she gets them. The one time we tried to wean her off since she was doing so well, she ended up hospitalized for days with a massive asthma attack. For us, it’s worth the extra 45 minutes falling asleep….

edit — don’t know if you saw it, but Singulair was also in the news recently as there’s some anecdotal evidence (though not proof) it might be linked with suicide and depression in kids. our pediatrician told us that we should keep using it anyway, but you might consider raising the question with your pediatrician, as well.
