Strep Toddlers

Strep Toddlers
How do you perform a saline rinse on a toddler?

My son gets frequent ear and sinus infections. He has had his adenoids(twice) and tonsils removed and has had a set of ear tubes before. He also ended up with a multidrug-resistant strep pneumococcal sinus infection from daycare. His ENT recommended a saline rinse. I have no idea how to do it. He said the children’s sprays were useless, to get the adult rinse. I have a neti pot for myself and cannot concieve he would tolerate it. Right now I am holding him down and using a squeeze bottle but it is very hard for him to tolerate and I’m not sure I can keep forceing it down his nose. I am using distilled water and non-iodized salt warmed to body temperature.

It seems to me the adult dosages would be too strong and burn his nose. I think you should stick with the kids saline. And when he is asleep or you could just tell him to lay down and look at his book and tell him you are going to put the drop one at a time at the top of his nose and when he feels it start to fall down, sniff, just like when your crying. That is how I do it with my 3 1/2 year old. There is no way on earth you can do a full blown saline rinse with a toddler.
Reward him with a lollipop or stickers or something….can you imagine how he must feel? I’m sure it’s quite unnerving so definately reward him.

Rest In Peace Jessica Miller ♥
